Information on the CAUBE.AU Logo Program for Internet Service Providers

The ISP logo program is open to any Internet service provider (ISP), Internet access provider (IAP), or Internet presence provider (IPP) operating in Australia.

Participation in the ISP logo programs means that a participant can place the approved logo on their home page, their policy pages and their abuse handling pages. The use of these logos does a number of things for the ISP. Firstly, it sends a signal to spammers that if they sign up for your service, they will be dealt with, and as such discourages them from signing up. Secondly, it gives potential customers the ability to sign up with the participating ISP with confidence that their messages will not be blocked elsewhere due to a spam problem. Finally, many of the more savvy users consider a strong AUP and enforcement to be an important factor in choosing an ISP for image reasons.

The ISP logo program requires the participant have an acceptable uses policy (AUP) that meets certain minimum requirements, and that they enforce that policy. It also requires the ISP to install relay protection on its SMTP servers, and requires the ISP to confider their DNS so that customers whose mail clients are configured to connect to a system called "smtp" or to a system called "mail", with no domain name suffix, will connect to the correct server.

At the entry level, the "CAUBE.AU OK ISP" logo can be used without approval, provided that the participant agrees to the terms of the program and complies with its requirements. The right to use the logo may be revoked if the participant is found to have breached any material condition of the program.

At higher levels, there are three "CAUBE.AU White Hat" logos. The more hats on the logo, the better the ISP's policies and/or enforcement. A participant must already be a participant in the entry level program, but the use of the "White Hat" logo requires the approval of the logo committee, and the right to use the logo may be withdrawn by that committee.
